Zuri has disclosed its modified Rotax generator engine and upcoming thermal-test plan. The next evidence is sustained operation under load, with demonstrator first flight targeted for Q2 2027.

Cooling and conversion losses determine how much usable propulsion power an installed genset can sustain.
Sustained electrical output, heat rejection, installed mass and ground-test results before flight.
Zuri’s 13 October engine update identifies EdgePerformance as the supplier of a modified Rotax 912 ULS for its TD 2.0 demonstrator. The company lists 93 kW at 5,800 rpm and a 57 kg dry engine mass.
The standard reduction gearbox is replaced by a direct-drive power take-off for the generator. Zuri reports an idle run in Prague; loaded power and cooling tests are planned after the 21–23 October Future Forces exhibition. First flight remains a company target for Q2 2027.
The 93 kW rating describes the engine, not measured electrical output at the propulsion bus. Generator and converter losses reduce the power available downstream. Dry engine mass also excludes the complete installed genset’s cooling hardware and electrical equipment, so it cannot establish aircraft-level power density.
Zuri’s series-hybrid architecture uses the generator for sustained supply and batteries for peak demand and landing reserve. Electric motors drive the rotors. Separating engine output from rotor drive allows power management across the aircraft, while adding generator, cooling and control interfaces that must be verified together.
PropulsionWatch’s assessment: an idle run establishes basic operation, while the useful next measurement is thermal equilibrium under sustained representative load. The test program needs to show how much cooling airflow the installation requires and how electrical demand affects available power. Fuel compatibility and a component rating alone do not establish aircraft endurance or an operating approval.
