Strengths

NASA reported in July 2026 that a GE Aerospace-built hybrid-electric system flew on a modified Saab 340B research aircraft. The demonstration followed ground testing with NASA and industry partners.

Weaknesses / Open Questions

The flight demonstrated a research system, not a certified production propulsion product. NASA’s Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration project has concluded; current work should be described using later sources.

NASA EPFD project status.
