Strengths
Elroy publishes a 500+ lb payload, up to 450 mi range and 115 kt cruise for Chaparral. The hybrid powertrain removes the need for charging infrastructure at delivery points. The company reports uncrewed autonomous flights under the FAA eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, a $46 million U.S. Army contract (August 2026), 15 Bristow early-delivery reservations and an exclusive U.S. manufacturing agreement with Kratos in Sacramento.

Weaknesses / Open Questions
No civil type certificate has been announced for Chaparral, and the FAA framework for airworthiness and routine operation of large uncrewed cargo aircraft is still being defined. Range and payload are manufacturer-published figures; the power split between generator and battery and the reserves assumed in the 450 mi figure are not published. The SPAC merger had not closed as of 25 September 2026, and first production aircraft are targeted for late 2026.
