Propulsion Architecture
EH216-S uses 16 electric motors and coaxial propeller pairs in a multicopter layout. VT35 uses a battery-electric tandem-wing lift+cruise architecture with eight lift propellers and one cruise propeller, designed for pilotless operation.

Strengths
The EH216-S has CAAC Type, Production and standard-airworthiness approvals, and approved operators hold Air Operator Certificates for paid human-carrying services at designated sites. EHang is also advancing a separate CAAC certification project for the VT35. In its Q1 2026 update, the company said VT35 was in certification-basis definition, with CAAC discussions covering special conditions, safety objectives and performance requirements, while test flights and avionics design continued ahead of certification-prototype manufacturing.

Weaknesses / Open Questions
EH216-S certification and operating approvals do not apply to VT35. No VT35 Type Certificate has been issued. The certification basis, compliance program and certification-prototype work remain in progress, and the published VT35 performance figures remain manufacturer specifications until supported by the applicable certification evidence.
