EUROCAE ED-12C provides a development-assurance framework for airborne software, covering planning, development, verification, configuration management, quality assurance and certification liaison objectives.
ED-12C is technically equivalent to RTCA DO-178C. EASA AMC 20-115D recognizes ED-12C/DO-178C for airborne software development assurance.
Software increasingly controls propulsion, energy management, flight controls, thermal management and avionics, making software assurance central to the certification case.
