ASTM F3338-24 specifies minimum design requirements for electric engines used in general-aviation aircraft.
The standard does not exclude distributed propulsion, but explicitly warns that additional requirements may be needed for issues such as common motor controllers/inverters, segregated wiring, cooling and shared electric power supplies.
ASTM tells applicants to seek project-specific guidance from the relevant civil aviation authority before using the specification as part of a certification plan. It is therefore a technical standard, not a stand-alone design approval.
