SAE ARP4754B provides guidance for development of civil aircraft and systems. It covers the aircraft- and system-level development process and interfaces to more specialized assurance standards.
Electric and VTOL aircraft are tightly coupled systems: propulsion, energy storage, flight controls, thermal management and avionics interact at aircraft level. ARP4754B is therefore important for requirement allocation, architecture, validation, verification and development assurance across those interfaces.
ARP4754B is SAE's current revision, published in December 2023. FAA AC 20-174 remains active and explicitly recognizes ARP4754A, the previous revision. PropulsionWatch therefore distinguishes the current industry revision from the revision presently named in that FAA AC.
