SD-05 remains in active JCAB type certification. It holds the G-1 certification basis (February 2025), an agreed General Certification Plan (March 2026) and JCAB design organization approval (April 2026). Flight testing has reached 100 km/h and 300 cumulative flights; no Type Certificate has been issued, and SkyDrive targets service in 2028.
Execute the agreed General Certification Plan: complete conformity, compliance demonstrations and JCAB findings on the production-representative three-seat aircraft.
SD-05 is a compact three-seat piloted multicopter intended for short urban and regional hops. Its current 12-motor configuration differs from earlier SkyDrive prototypes and is the relevant certification design.
The program remains PRE-EIS. Public demonstrations, including Expo-related flying, did not constitute type certification or passenger-service approval.
The manufacturer publishes 12 independently controlled motors, four battery systems and a “3+1” flight-control concept: triplex primary control with a separate independent backup. The aircraft has no fixed wing and remains rotor-borne throughout flight.
Published dimensions, mass, noise and mission claims are manufacturer specifications pending the approved type design.
JCAB accepted SkyDrive’s type-certification application in 2021 and issued the G-1 certification basis in February 2025. On 9 March 2026, SkyDrive reported that it and JCAB had agreed the General Certification Plan, defining the overall compliance-demonstration process and working framework for the remaining certification program.
SkyDrive subsequently reported stable 100 km/h high-speed flight testing in June 2026 and a cumulative 300 flights by the end of that month. Those tests add development evidence but do not constitute type certification.
SkyDrive targets short-hop air-taxi and tourism missions in Japan and other markets. Demonstration flights and commercial partnership announcements do not establish entry into service.
Remaining gates include completion of design maturity, conformity, structural and systems compliance evidence, battery and propulsion qualification, JCAB flight testing, production approval and operator-specific permissions.

Evidence boundary: the G-1 basis, General Certification Plan and development flights are certification-progress evidence; none is a Type Certificate or passenger-service approval.
